HISTORY
William Dodsley began his work with Imperial Oil Agent Stan Jacob in Delmer, Ontario from the general store location upon his return home from World War II military service. He took over as agent from Mr. Jacob 1954, delivering bulk fuels for residential and agricultural customers.
The operations moved to the West end of Delmer in 1959, and the agency in Tillsonburg, Ontario was taken over in 1967 from Leo Prong.
Delmer was phased out and the operations moved to 61 First Street, Tillsonburg, where Wm’s son David Dodsley began working with Wm. Dodsley Ltd. in the spring of 1967. Over the ensuing years, Wm Dodsley Ltd. took over the Eastern part of Neil Hepburn’s agency in Aylmer, the Norwich area from Elmer Douglas, and the Port Rowan area from George Gates.
Wm Dodsley Ltd. diversified into the propane business in 1981. In April, 1988 David Dodsley became the principle and also an Imperial Oil Reseller under Dodsley Fuels Ltd., expanding to a new loading facility at 61 First Street. A new office facility was constructed on the premises in 1991.
Partner and mother Hazel Dodsley died in the spring of 1993, at which time all Imperial Oil assets from Core Fuels in Norwich were purchased. Respectively, in 1994, the Woodstock assets were purchased from Imperial Oil. Wm Dodsley passed away in the spring of 1994.
In January, 2002 the fuel oil division was sold to nearby Imperial Oil Reseller, Jack Karn of Dowler-Karn Fuels. Dodsley Fuels Ltd. was re-located to 264 Tillson Avenue, Tillsonburg under the trade name Dodsley Propane.
In December of 2006, David’s son Derek Dodsley, became the principle of Dodsley Propane. In 2009, Dodsley Propane was re-located to 45 Spruce Street, Tillsonburg to a larger facility to accommodate the growth of the business. The 5.18 acre site hosts a 60,000USWG capacity bulk storage loading facility, a 2000USWG propane and automotive dispenser, and a 12,000 sqft building.
